Abstract:
The study examines the cad catalogue use pattern among the students in Qyo State College of Education, Oyo, Oyo State. The study identifies library catalogues commonly used, It assesses the rate of success being recorded when library books are to be retrieved using the library catalogue system. The study makes use of regular and sandwich students at aH levels totaling 250. The study found that 83.48% of students sampled suc~ssfulyt use catalogues in searching and locating books. The study advocates a better shew arrangement to enhance mtalogue use.

Abstract:
The paper undertakes a comparative study of the effect of the teaching of library studies on the use of library resources at St Andrews College of Education, Oyo using two different groups. The results indicated that despite the exposure of group A to library instruction and group B without, library resources are still being under utilised as manifested in the low rate of visit to the library, books borrowed out, use of library catalogues and so on. Suggestions are made to the handlers of the course to devote more time to practical works.

Abstract:
The paper examines the book use pattern in a college library. The available statistical data of the library services are collated, analysed and discussed. The data reveal a progressive increase in library student registration over 1994-1 998. The study reveals a low borrowing pattern in comparison with registered borrowers. Books are heavily consulted in sciences and social sciences than .in Languages and education. It recommends that other services areas like reference, consultation and students project use could be kept statistically.

Abstract:
The study looks at the book acquisitions for Colleges of Education minimum standards on collection development. It reveals that greater percentage of books was acquired through donation, gift. Against the background of over reliance on donations, the relevance of the books acquired to the entire college academic programme falls short of the minimum standards. The study also reveals that the ratio of students to book collection does not meet the required standards. it is also revealed in thestudy that the acquire number of books fall short of the number of students added for a greater part of the years under review.

Abstract:
The paper examines the various types of traditions as a basis for human knowledge. The paper explains the concept of tradition in relation to the society and academic institutions. Relating the concept to one of the oldest teachers college in Nigeria, the role of traditions in academic setting in instilling discipline and moulding the characters of the trainees is reviewed. Against the background of documenting these traditions relating to discipline, feeding, dressing, religion, character and so on, the role of the library is dicussed. it is suggested that old traditions especially those that could enhance discipline and dignity of labour in teachers should be identified and entrenched into Colleges of Education. The paper concludes that library's efforts should be geared towards identifying, documenting and making available positive traditions of yester years that could improve the professional ethics of the present crop of teachers in training.

Two separate questionnaires were designed to coIl& responses from the audiences. The study revealed that different professional has its own peculiar information requirements. Although, both of them rely on nearly similar sources of information, there was significant difference in the patterns and strategies used in collecting information. Abstract:
The paper examines various types of statistics expected to be kept by Colleges of Education. Matching the National Cornmission for Colleges of education (NCCE) prescribed statistics with the statistics of library services in two institutional libraries, the study establishes that few of the prescribed statistics are maintained. The study further enumerates the actual statistics available in the two libraries. In comparison, the study establishes that 7 (53% of the prescn'bed 13 broad areas are currently established in the libraries under reference. It is recommended that other vital area essential for monitoring and updating Iibrary collections should be established.

Abstract:
The role and problems facing book shelving and shelf reading are examined using St. Andrew's College as an example. The paper discusses the principle underlying shelving and shelf reading. The inhibiting factors are identified as time constraint, inadequate number of personnel to carry out shelving, classmark improperly written on book spines, users' non-compliance with library rules, among others. The practice of shelving and shelf reading could be improved if books are sorted into subject classes before moving them to book shelves and that users are educated against shelving books themselves.
