PROFILE OF THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN, ALBERT ILEMOBADE LIBRARY, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, AKURE, NIGERIA-Dr. ROBERT AKINADE AWOYEMI

Dr Awoyemi was born on the 13th December, 1970 in Ago-Are, Atisbo Local Government of Oyo State. He had his primary education at the Baptist Primary School, Saki, from where he proceeded to the Baptist High School, also in Saki for his secondary education and graduated in the year 1984. He had his National Certificate in Education in the year 1988 at the Polytechnic of Ibadan. He proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he obtained a second-class (upper division) Bachelor degree in Library and Information Science, He obtained his Master of Information Science Degree in 2004 at The African Regional Centre for Information Science, University of Ibadan. He Obtained his Doctoral Degree in Information Resources Management with specialisation in Strategic ICT use in Library Services from the Babcock University in 2021.

Dr Awoyemi Started his career in Librarianship at the Oyo State Library Board, Ibadan in the year 2004 as a Systems Librarian, where he pioneered the establishment of ICT/e-Library Centres in the three senatorial districts in Oyo State. He left Oyo State Library Board in 2008 for Redeemer’s University as a faculty member and Systems Librarian. He joined the services of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo in the year 2009 from where he rose to the peak of his career. He served at various times as Systems Librarian, Readers Services Librarian, Internal IT Consultant to the entire Institution, Member, Institutional Research Committee; Grants Drafting Committee; Convocation Committee; Academic Planning and Quality Assurance; Accreditation Committee; College Librarian, Acting University Librarian to mention but few. Dr Awoyemi has considerable experience spanning over 20 years in library and information science, knowledge management, Open learning systems and information technology. He has been promoting library management software adoption, mobile technologies in Libraries and strategic use of IT resources in academic institutions for the past 10 years.

Dr. Awoyemi is a prolific scholar who has attended numerous international and local conferences and presented insightful papers in his fields of specialization. He has published over 60 articles in reputable referenced works and presented over 30 academic papers in conferences and workshops both local and international. His professional international exposure has taken him to; Library of Congress, Washington D.C. USA; Association for Information Science and Technology Secretariat, Maryland USA; University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA for Library Collective gathering; Melbourne in Australia; Thane, India, where he acquired training in Library Automation; and Nairobi, Kenya for E-learning and Collaborative Tools Training.

  • Resource Person to Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria on Application of ICT to Library Services
  • Development of Koha Library Management systems Manual for the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria.
  • Development of Benchmark for Accreditation of LIS Curriculum
  • Development of Library Services Standards, Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja
  • Preparation of IT Policy for ACE, Ondo

  • IFLA/FAIFE HIV/AIDS Information Provision Grant Award (Librarians Intervention Project on HIV/AIDS)
  • Letter of Commendation from Governing Council of Adeyemi College of Education for excellent performance during NUC Accreditation Exercise of 2017
