Dr. Belau Gbadamosi, FUTA Librarian, Gets Tenure Extension

The Management of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA has extended the tenure of the university Librarian, Dr Belau Gbadamosi by one year with effect from 1st August 2021 in accordance with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions Amendment) Act 2012.

In a letter conveying the message the Registrar Mr. Richard Arifalo wrote “On behalf of the Governing Council, I congratulate you very warmly on this well-deserved extension. It is hoped that you will be motivated to put in your best effort to further improve upon the good standard of administration already attained by the university, and that you will continue to be loyal and committed to the course of the university. Dr Gbadamosi was first appointed FUTA Librarian for a single term of five years in 2016.

Congratulations Sir.

The University Library is updating the Community with new acquisitions. These are:

1. ACQUISITION OF UPDATED TEEAL DATABASE

The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library is a digital collection of research journals in Agricultural and related sciences. The Digital Library is accessible offline but only within the University Environment.

Members of FUTA’s Research Community are invited to access the Database through FUTA Intranet Service or with IP Address: 196.220.148.252 on preferred browser.

2. NEW BOOKS JUST ARRIVED

The University Library has just received about 107 book titles with over four hundred and twenty-eight (428 volumes). The new books covered wide range of programmes including Sciences, Environmental, Geophysics, Geology, Marine Science, Physics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Geofinorrmatics, Remote Sensing, Surveying and Agricultural Science. The book supplies are part of the merged 2013, 2014 and 2015 Tetfund intervention.

Lecturers, Researchers and Postgraduate Students should avail themselves this opportunity to peruse latest collections on their research fields and interest.

The programme is targeted at all academic and non-academic staff that do not possess requisite computer skills.

Introduction

Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) was set up by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to train the needed skilled manpower for the fast-growing information and communications technology industry in Nigeria. Since its inception, the institution has been involved in various capacity building initiative in the ICT sector as a means of driving the Nigeria economy. Supported with funding from the Nigerian communications commission, one of the flagship programmes of the institute is the Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI).

The ADAPTI is a unique platform that targets Academic and Non-academic Staff of tertiary institutions for training in basic ICT office productivity tools, including the internet, use of e-teaching and e-learning facilities as well as collaborations in course delivery at no cost to the participants. It is a programme geared towards equipping senior members of staff of tertiary institutions with ICT skills thus enabling them to translate the acquired acknowledge and skill into improved teaching and work performance.

  • The Library Study Lounge

The Library Study Lounge was launched on 9th August, 2018 to provide a relaxation space in contrast to the serious atmosphere of the reading rooms. One can enjoy interesting programmes on the widescreen television, read current newspapers, browse on the University hotspot and converse uninhibited in the Library Lounge. The comfortable furniture gives library clients a feeling of a home away from home , so come in an enjoy this facility.

  • User Registration Made Easy

Have you been discouraged from being a library user because of the long queues and slow services? Albert Ilemobade Library has simplified the process of registration. Simply Log into the library registration page on: www.futa.edu.ng/futalibrary or use the quick link on the University Website, fill the online form and endorse it in the Circulation Unit to complete the process.

  • Automated Services

Leveraging on the affordances of Information Technology, our services have gone automated. Borrowing library resources is now automated and only takes a fraction of the time it used to take.

  • AIL Online Catalogue now revived

The AIL Online Public Access Catalogue OPAC is now accessible on the University Intranet. Access the library collection from your offices, classrooms or hostels on the Intranet Services tab on the FUTA Hotspot Login Page to access the Catalogue. Still a Work In Progress, in a matter of time it will be launched unto the World Wide Web (WWW) and will then become accessible anytime, anywhere in the world.

  • FUTA Scholar is Up and Running

Our Institutional Repository, an online archive where digital versions of documents and publications generated within the University are uploaded is now active. Search for Masters and PhD theses, lectures, speeches and other documents. To access this Database go to the Intranet Services tab on the FUTA Hotspot Login Page and click on DSPACE. This project will go fully online on the WWW on completion.

  • Scholarly Databases are Available

Have you used EBSCOHost, CALIBRE and TEEAL? These databases are available for use. Search EBSCOHOST on search.ebscohost.com and visit the University Login page for other databases. Take advantage of the high quality, impact journals and peer-reviewed articles on these databases to set your research apart and make your research experience more rewarding than ever before.

Albert Ilemobade Library, FUTA

AIL HONOURS OGUNTUASE

The former University Librarian, Dr. F. Z. oguntuase was honoured for the meritorious service and successful completion of his tenure as the University Librarian of Albert Ilemobade Library in a get-together party organized on his honour by the staff of AIL,FUTA on 9th August, 2018.

At the occasion powerful encomium were showered on the former UL by the Staff and guests. The event was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor as ably represented by DVC Development, Prof. Philip Oguntunde.

2018 FOUNDATION DAY LECTURE The foundation day lecture of The Federal University of Technology, Akure for the year 2018 is scheduled for Wednesday 15th August, 2018 by 12:00noon at the University main auditorium. The lecture is titled “Technopreneurship: global perspectives for 21st century University of Technology “which shall be delivered by Engr. Umar Buba Bindir, the Secretary to the State Government, Adamawa State. The chairman of the occasion is the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Adeola Fuwape.

Emerald Trial Access2 This serves to inform the University community that FUTA has been given free access to Emerald e-journals commencing from 5th July to 5th August; 2018.the free access could be shared with all Faculties, Researchers and Students as well. AIL Annual get together The annual get together of Albert Ilemobade Library, FUTA has been scheduled for 12:00 Noon on Thursday 2nd August, 2018. All Library staff is enjoined to attend as the former University Librarian Dr. F.Z. Oguntuase shall be honoured on that day.

2017/2018 Matriculation Ceremony

The 35th Matriculation Ceremony signaling the formal admittance of Fresh Students for the 2017/2018 academic session will hold on Thursday,12th April,2018 in the University Main Auditorium by 10:00 AM Attendance is mandatory for all fresh students as the Matriculation Register will be signed in the course of the ceremony.

FUTA gets new DVC (Development)

Professor Philip Oguntunde has emerged the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He is an alumnus of the University, a first class graduate of Agricultural Engineering in 1994. Professor Philip Oguntunde has lots of awards to his credit. He will serve in the capacity of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development) for the next two years. The 49 year old Professor is widely travelled and married with wife and children. The Library family wishes him a successful tenure.

E-RESOURCES

The e- resources Unit of the Library is calling on all Library Staff to please provide their active e-mail addresses to the unit to enhance communication. Henceforth, all official letters emanating from the unit shall be sent through e-mail.

Wedding

A staff of the library , Mr. Olugbenga Olude of the School of Health and Health Technology Library recently led former Miss Esther Opeyemi to the altar at the cathedral of the Apostolic Church, IIara-Mokin. The event which was well attended by people from far and near had the Deputy University Librarian (TSD) Mrs. Z.M. Falaiye in attendance. The reception took place at St. Michaels Centenary Hall, Ilara-Mokin where family, friends and well-wishers dine and wine with the new couple.

The Library family wishes the new couple a happy married life.

Burial

Mr.Fola Akinnawo of the circulation unit (Readers Services Division) lost his father Pa Samuel Olasehinde Akinnawo of No. 18, Akinfemi Street, Odojomu, Ondo City at the ripe age of 88years. Pa Akinnawo slept in the Lord on 7th march, 2018. The funeral arrangements for Pa Samuel Olasehinde Akinnawo is scheduled as follows:

Friday 6th April, 2018 Dancing round the town – 8:00am – 12:00 noon

Christian wake-keep by 5:00pm

Saturday 7th April, 2018 Funeral services at his residence by 10:00am

Pa Samuel Olasehinde Akinnawo is survived by wives, children and grandchildren.
